When I recently started exploring content on English-speaking YouTube with a new account dedicated to this purpose, I wasn’t sure where to begin. My algorithm was still completely blank, so I started by searching for keywords and topics of interest. That’s when I came across the channel “Artificially Aware”.
For the first time, I found myself uncertain about what I was actually watching: were these essay-style videos written by humans but presented with an AI aesthetic (synthetic voices and AI-generated images)? Or was this a channel where every stage of creation was handled by AI?
Despite some research, I still can’t determine the exact balance between artificial and human elements in this content. This is the first time I’ve experienced such uncertainty. It’s quite unsettling.2 -
Faced with repeated flight cancellations, I used to get the airline’s customer service department on the phone to transfer me to another flight. Recently, the procedure changed: I had to log on to the airline’s web page and found myself in discussion with a chatbot: the conversation was as fluid as with a human agent, with verbal questions such as ‘Is there an earlier flight? or ‘Is there a later flight? This provoked a series of cascading feelings in me: first of all doubt about the success of this procedure. Then, as soon as the plane tickets were produced, the doubt disappeared and I became fascinated by the simplicity of the procedure. I also felt that I couldn’t ‘irritate’ the agent with my indecisions or changes… Anyway, let’s just say I didn’t need to go that far. Would it have happened?

What a surprise it was when, without realising it, I installed an AI assistant in my Teams online meeting software. It seemed that I had subconsciously made a small adjustment and now a robot was systematically joining all my online meetings! It was even connecting 10 minutes in advance! This made me break out in a cold sweat: was a participant starting the meeting earlier than planned? Or was it me who was late? After a bit of research, I found a way of disabling this intrusive robot… so that I could stay connected just between humans….
